what's this?

You have your 20-leg itinerary planned, your next RTW is right around the corner or it's just your first longhaul return flight to a remote destination. Whatever the reasons, it's a lot of work to find out which loyalty programme to join to collect the most miles for your trip.
Accredited mileage will vary greatly from airline to airline, each booking class has their own percentage, fixed values or both. On top of that, one mile at one programme is by no means the same as one mile at another programme. Some don't even have "miles"..

To make the choice a little bit easier, bonusmiles.net tries to calculate how many qualifying status- as well as bonusmiles (or whatever the terminology may be) you will receive for a given itinerary.

All mileage projections are unofficial calculations only. They are no more than an educated guess and you should not rely on these results! After having compared them on bonusmiles.net, make sure to look up the actual tables at each respective programme before making a decision. (And feel free to let me know if the results are different!)

FAQ

How to distinguish between operating and marketing carrier?
Currently there's no option to enter both carriers for a more correct calculation. If in doubt, enter operating carrier for Star Alliance flights and marketing carrier for OneWorld flights. I'll probably add a feature to enter both carriers in the future.

How is the departure date relevant?
While the departure date is optional, some programmes have blackout dates during which fares do not accrue any bonusmiles as well as special time periods in which they double the bonus etc. Therefore the departure date is required for a more correct projection of achievable bonusmiles.

The mileage should be different if I already have a status
Mile accruage often times doubles on condition of a preexisting status. Say you already have Gold at a programme, it's likely that the accrued status mileage for any given flight will be different to the amount you'd receive without any previous status. So far bonusmiles.net ignores this and calculates the mileage for users without a prior status. Most of the times, the bonus you'll receive will be as simple as doubling the amount, so the simplicity of the itineray-form is probably more important. This might change in the future though.

Recent updates

  • Fixed BA and deactivated QR (26 Feb 19:30)

I've noticed there was a bug in calculating QR as well as BA data.. BA should be back to operating as expected, QR however will take some time and is taken offline for the time being.

  • Updates to all Programmes (25 Jan 12:15)

I have brought all programmes up to date and fixed a bug with QR programme. Hope it's all working as it should..!

  • Bugfix and Programme Updates (22 Jul 09:44)

I fixed a bug in the calculation engine which led to receiving no results at all in certain conditions. Also, I'm constantly updating programmes as they come. I don't mention each update in the news since there are minor changes to the programmes on almost a daily basis. AA is having major changes from August 1st onwards, I'm still in the process of updating all the data.

  • Regular updates & captcha fixed (24 May 06:19)

I've adopted the small weekly changes to all programmes, it's always surprising to see how many accruagetables are changed without any indication whatsoever. Also, I've fixed the captcha bug which in most cases prevented to calculate anything at all..!

  • MilleMiglia getting closer (05 Apr 11:48)

They've finally fixed almost all of their obvious flaws to their accruage tables. I've incorporated their changes, calculation for MilleMiglia should be far closer to the actual expected results.

  • Fixed some minor bugs (01 Apr 20:16)

Engine had some hickups when qatar privilege club was part of the calculation. Had to take the site offline for a few seconds to fix some annoying bugs but all is working now!

  • Updates to Krissflyer and MilleMiglia (31 Mar 11:55)

Minor updates to mileage calculations at Krissflyer and once again at MilleMiglia. The latter still has several obvious errors in the accruage tables at their website, so take any calculations for MilleMiglia with a grain of salt.

  • Programme Updates (29 Mar 13:51)

Several programmes have quietly fixed a few errors in their accruage tables. I've incorporated all of them. This affects Miles&Smiles, SUMA and above all Alitalia. Also some minor updates over at Aeroplan.

  • Minor update to Etihad Partners (22 Mar 13:47)

There's a new Partner over at Etihad: you can now earn Etihad guest miles when flying with GOL Intelligent Airlines. I've updated the calculations to reflect this change.

  • SUMA integrated (13 Mar 18:17)

I've updated quite a lot under the hood - thanks to this I was able to integrate SUMA by Air Europa. However it has one caveat: Only flights operated by partner airlines will actually accrue mileage based results, flights operated OR marketed by Air Europa result in price based miles (twice the amount in USD or EUR).
